Iron Orchid Design Paintable transfer on wood
I used the Iron Orchid Design Winter's Song paintable decor transfer on top of a stained 24 x 48 tabletop. Before staining I lightly sanded the surface of the top and cleaned off the dust with a damp cloth. I then applied Dixie Belle Voo Doo Gel Stain in Black Magic with a round blue applicator sponge. Once I had stained the top with Dixie Belle Voo Doo Gel stain I sanded it and re coated a second time. The Voo Doo Gel Stain is water based and cleans up easy peasy! I didn't wear gloves and had no stain on my hands after a quick wash.
I let the stain sit for about a month before I continued working with it. No reason , other than I was not sure what I wanted to do with the top yet. lol
My mom actually had the idea of adding the Winter's Song transfer to the top. I've mentioned before she has limited sight and loves painting in the paintable transfers because she can see the outlines.
I then added the transfer after wiping the top down with a damp cloth. Once the transfer was added I began painting in the flowers with slightly thinned acrylic craft paint. The paint did absorb in some areas more than others. I love that! It gave it natural shading.
Once I was done painting I let it dry for about 2 weeks before adding Dixie Belle Gator Hide top coat. I applied it with a sponge lightly. It dries very fast in thin even coats. I then added 2 more coats letting it dry thoroughly between each coat.
The combination of the natural wood and the paint really added to the floral feeling of the transfer. I had this great set of vintage, red, hair pin legs that I attached to make a great table. Which is available in our Adjectives Market Winter Garden store right now. Please let us know if you have any questions. You can purchase all the products on our site.
